Last night we ran our special event WSOP ME replication. Nine of us gathered around the felt to determine who, come November, would win the Main Event. If our play mirrors those in Vegas then a hearty congratulations goes out to Eric Buchman, winner of the 2009 WSOP Main Event! Brent played his stack beautifully, and once three-handed captured the lead by knocking out James Akenhead (Nikki). Jeff Shulman (Iwan) played valiantly but was not able to overcome the stack of Brent. Darvin Moon, current real-life chip leader, had the misfortune of surrendering control of his chips to Mooney who bid $60 for the big stack. On behalf of my poker group please accept my apologies Mr. Moon as Mooney was ill suited to be in control of such volume of chips. As such, the stack of Darvin Moon/Mooney busted in 6th place.
I would also like to personally extend my apology to Phil Ivey. As controller of his stack, I was unable to run it up properly. Our abbreviated blind levels forced my hand sooner than I would have liked and resulted in a 7th place finish.
A big kudos HAS to go out to James Akenhead/Nikki. She was able to manipulate the absolute shortest stack at the table into the chip lead 3-handed. Unfortunately, cold deck syndrome struck and blinds ate away at the stack resulting in a 3rd place exit.
I'd also be remiss if I didn't thank our friend DeCoder for making the drive from Toronto to join us for the game. Unfortunately he didn't make any money but I hope he enjoyed the evening as much as the rest of did.
Next week is back to regular poker. See you there!
