July!!!!!

Vote in the poll to the right ---->

July's event, simply put, was Most Awesome!

As I've been hyping for the past few months it was our $2 Rebuy Extravaganza and Annual BBQ. For the past week, I've been watching the Weather Network on a daily+ basis. At first it was looking really good; then the information changed. On Friday they were saying an 80% chance of precipitation and risk of thunderstorms. Yesterday morning was actually really really nice but a little hazy. A quick check of the weather network reveals that they are unwavering in their commitment to bring me rain. The radar shows a stormfront moving east from Illinois. With the BBQ scheduled to start at 3:00 the rain held off until about 2:45.

The rain stopped and we moved outside. Just before 5:00 I fired up the BBQ and not too long after that it REALLY started coming down again. After a few minutes or torrential downpour it stopped again so some of floated outside. After eating I played a few short games of horseshoes with Scott and Mike.

As it was getting closer to poker time the sky looked good so, because of the heat, we decided to move the tables into the backyard and play outside. There were a couple dissenters in the decision (girls) but we forged ahead. Got everything all setup, sit down and play the first hand and then it starts raining again. Everyone scrambles inside and by the time we had the tables inside it had stopped raining again. We had a new player, Todd, last night thanks to Mike H.

I wasn't too sure what to expect with the rebuy with regards to how people would play. Sure, a couple players were easy to peg in their style. Mike H was crazy stupid lucky. He quickly amassed a huge chip lead at our table by regularly winning with the worst hand. I wanted to play a LAGgy game but the cards I was getting were so bad it wasn't even possible to do that. Below you'll see the results.

August's game is on the 9th! Back to the standard format for that one. Now that both of the "new" events - the rebuy and the bounty - have been played I had been planning on running a 3rd special game later in the year. Based on my thoughts and a few others, I'm leaning toward running another bounty game maybe in Oct or Nov. Ultimately I'll leave it up to the players and we'll talk about it next month. Feel free to chime in here and let me know what you think - rebuy, bounty, or no special games? Vote in the poll to the right!

Thanks again to everyone who came out last night!
