So another poker night is in the bag. There were a few surprises in store for the attendees tonight. First up was improved lighting in the poker room. Mike C and I wired up some track lighting earlier in the day. Next was some new playing cards. For those that have been out before you know that we were using decks from actual casinos that were previously played. Earlier this month I bought two decks of Copag cards. This are the same style of cards that were used last year at the WSOP in Vegas. The twist to the decks I ordered was that they were a four colour deck. Diamonds are no longer red and Clubs are no longer black. Diamonds are blue and clubs are green. The cards were received with a mixed reaction. Some didn't like the four colours, others didn't like the way they shuffled, some liked the way they shuffled. They're a bit thinner card and they're made of plastic so they should be long lasting. Anyway, they're here to stay until someone makes "Waffle" cards for live play. We also tried a new ranch dip, but it sucked. It was this "extreme flavour" dill ranch dip. Mike H loved it. Everyone else - not so much.
Gameplay itself was interesting. Prior to the start of the night we randomized (more or less) the seating. For logistic reasons I stayed sitting where I was. Everyone else though drew seats out of a hat. This ended up with me having Nikki immediately to my left. Once we got down to play, the first elimination was over on table two and was actually a double knockout with Adam sending both Mooney and Jason to the rail. At table one, the first elimination was ALSO a double knockout with Nikki felting both Jeff and Mike H.
Play tightened up once we got down to the points bubble. Everyone wanted those elusive points. Relatively short stacked at one point, I dealt two horribly bad beats to Adam, doubling up off of him both times as my poorer hand caught a straight by the river. I really hope he doesn't have any puppies at home cuz he probably went home and kicked them.
Another great night I believe.
So the next event is May 26th (NO, it's NOT the long weekend - it's the weekend after that). The following event is currently scheduled for June 23rd however, due to a work conflict it may move to June 9th. Hope to see you all there!
